Global Hunger Index 2020: India ranks 94 out of 107 countries, under ‘serious’ category

According to the report, 14 percent of India’s population is undernourished. It also says that the country recorded a child stunting rate of 37.4 per cent. Stunted children are those who have a “low height for their age, reflecting chronic undernutrition”.

The report said, the country dropped ten places in the Democracy Index's global ranking to 51st. The primary cause of the democratic regression was an erosion of civil liberties in the country.

In terms of 11 indicators including the safety, security, financial inclusion, political inclusion, gender bias, we stand at 133rd position out of 167 countries.

India ranked 112th of 153 countries on the Global Gender Gap Index 2020

India was among the five worst-performing countries on the economic participation, opportunity, and health and survival sub-indices of the index. Gaps in data mean increased difficulty in identifying existing gender disparities and formulating policies to close the gap.

India is the 5th most polluted country in the world.

India accounts for two-thirds of the world’s most polluted cities — 21 of the most polluted 30 cities; 14 of the highest 20; and 6 of the highest 10 — in the 2019 World Air Quality Report.
